I wanted another stool for my piano; the old one had simply disintegrated. So I made my way to the local antique warehouse to see what was on offer. In the end there was no competition. There were a number of stools and the one I chose was a deep and attractive one but that wasn’t all. Inside it was a neatly arrayed collection of sheet music dating back to the early 20th century and beyond. Clearly this had once been somebody’s pride and joy. As with the chest of drawers (see DYAP February 2023), further examination would have to await semi-retirement – and here we are.
